Read the market evidence
Customer reviews, job posts, community threads, competitor customers and existing alternatives, alongside your own call notes. We read what the market has already said about this problem before defining anything.
This engagement uses market evidence to define who fits, what makes your product relevant, and what could move the problem up the list.
You need to understand the problem a company faces, what it is trying to achieve, how it handles that problem today, and what could make solving it a priority. Fit on its own answers none of this.
It may not have the problem your product solves, or any reason to make it a priority this quarter.
A problem can persist for years. What matters is what could make solving it urgent now.
You can explain what it does and people follow. It is not yet written from the buyer’s situation, so it reads as a description rather than a reason to act.
Market evidence helps establish which companies fit, what makes your product relevant to them and what could create urgency. This work brings those findings together into a Situational ICP and messaging pillars that give prospecting a clear foundation..
Find out what buyers need, how they solve it today and where the current options fall short. The goal is not to collect more information. It is to separate the patterns that matter from the assumptions that still need testing.
A useful ICP connects company fit to a problem worth solving. It also makes the buying roles clearer: who feels the problem, who owns the outcome and who could champion a change. Together these explain when your product becomes relevant.
Fit shows who could buy. A change in circumstances may explain why now. The useful trigger is the one connected to the buying situation, not simply an event that looks interesting.
Start with what the buyer needs, not just what your product does. Each pillar connects a buyer need to the value your product provides. Together they give your team a clear direction for positioning and outreach.

Each engagement includes the work before it. These five weeks are the foundation Engagements 02 and 03 are built on — start here and the later layers already have what they need.Hover or tap any week to see what happens in it.
Customer reviews, job posts, community threads, competitor customers and existing alternatives, alongside your own call notes. We read what the market has already said about this problem before defining anything.
Company fit, the outcome the buyer owns, the problem in the way and the workaround they use today — plus who feels it, who owns it and who could champion a change. In the same week we identify what could move the problem up the list.
What the buyer is trying to achieve, what they compare you against and what would delay a decision. Week 05 puts the draft in front of real buyers and corrects it where they disagree.
You own all of it at the end of week five. The ICP & Messaging Playbook, the evidence behind every decision and the reasoning that connects them are handed over in full and documented so that you, or your first GTM hire, can use and extend them without me. What happens next is your call: run with it, or move to Engagement 02 and build the prospecting system that finds live accounts matching the definition.
Five weeks of definition will make your targeting and messaging sharper. It will not put meetings in your calendar this month. If that is what you need, say so on the call and I will tell you straight.
The scope depends on the evidence already available, the research required and how much buyer validation is needed. Engagement 01 defines who to look for and why; account discovery and prioritisation come next.
Everything above is handed over as the ICP & Messaging Playbook at the end of week five, and it becomes the foundation for Engagement 02: Build Your Prospecting System. That next step uses these criteria to find, validate and prioritise actual companies.
The questions that come up most often. If yours is missing, bring it to the call.
No, and that boundary is deliberate. Engagement 01 defines who fits, the buying situation that makes your product relevant, and what evidence matters. Engagement 02 uses those criteria to discover, check and prioritise actual accounts. Selling you a list before the definition exists is how most outbound goes wrong.
Engagements start at $1,200. Where yours lands depends on how much buyer evidence already exists, how much primary research is needed, and how much validation the definition needs before you would trust it. You get a fixed number before we start, not a range that moves.
Yes, though the evidence comes from a different place. With no customers, we read the market instead: how people talk about tools like yours, what they complain about in community threads, what companies are hiring for, and whatever your own prospect conversations have already surfaced. That produces a hypothesis with reasoning behind it, clearly marked as a hypothesis. What it does not produce is certainty, and I will not present it as such.
Around eight hours in total across the five weeks, taken as one or two working sessions per block, plus a read-through before handover. The research and the analysis are mine. What I need from you is the thinking only you have: why you built this, what prospects have actually said, and where conversations stalled. Founders who delegate those sessions get a noticeably thinner result.
Partly. Where strong evidence already exists, weeks 01 and 02 compress. What does not compress is putting the definition in front of real buyers and letting them correct it. If you want the output in two weeks without that step, you are buying a well-argued guess, and you should know that is what you are buying.
Then you have found that out in five weeks rather than after two quarters of outbound. In practice a flat no is rare. Far more often the demand is real but sits with a narrower buyer, or in a different situation, than the one you built for. That is a redirection, and it is worth considerably more than a confirmation would have been.
For this engagement, none. The research runs on my stack. Tooling only becomes a question at Engagement 02, when the prospecting system needs somewhere to live, and we will size that against what you are willing to spend rather than handing you a list of subscriptions.
The ICP & Messaging Playbook and the reasoning behind it, handed over in full and documented so it transfers. Your next hire needs to understand why the buyer is defined this way, not only what the definition says. The test I apply is this: if I disappeared the week we finished, you should still be able to use it and extend it yourself.
A Sales Navigator search, an Apollo or Clay export, or a spreadsheet you started and never finished. We take a few accounts from it and work through what the public evidence actually says about each one.
